The mod graphic was originally painted on vehicles belonging to the RAF in one variant or another from 1915-now. The logo was then adopted by The Who, then by the Mod subculture of the 05's and 60's. The logo is both a subtle acknowledgment of the aeronautical roots of Piaggio and of Vespa Scooters and a nod to the Mods that made the Vespa an icon.
